the road to bright

We took the winding Alpine Way between Mount Kosciuszko National Park and Bright, dropping the windows whenever we could to breathe in that sharp alpine air. Crisp eucalyptus… or was it pine? Hard to tell, but it felt clean and awake, like the mountains clearing your head for you.

The temperature kept falling. Low clouds rolled in, heavy and close, carrying the promise of a storm. Wild horses grazed near the road, kangaroos watched us pass, and emus moved slowly through the landscape as if they’d always been there and always would be.

Jason tried his luck in a couple of streams and rivers, but it’s clear he’s wearing fish repellent on this trip.

We pushed on toward Mount Buffalo National Park, but it quickly turned blizzard like. Visibility dropped to almost nothing, the road disappeared into thick, low cloud. In the end, we had to turn back.

Beautiful scenery. Sometimes the mountains decide when it’s time to stop. I guess we’ll head to Wandi pub and grab a bite and a beer.
