Mount Kosciuszko

Jason 0, Fish 2

Two attempts, and the fish still had the upper hand. They weren’t interested, and that was fine, there were other adventures waiting when the fish weren’t cooperating.

Mount Kosciuszko clearly didn’t get the memo that it was summer. Ice still clung to the peaks, quiet and stubborn. As we moved through the landscape, we came across a group of wild brumbies wandering freely. It felt surreal.

I’ve been chasing photographs of wild brumbies up north for a couple of years now, so seeing a large group like this was something special. Even from afar, there was a real beauty in watching them move together, a brief, unforgettable moment before they disappeared again.

The quiet up there was something else. At times it felt like we had the mountain to ourselves, as if everything had slowed down just enough for us to notice it.

In the end, we pulled into a small spot along the river, made some lunch, and sat there doing nothing more than being in nature. No rush, no agenda. Just water moving past and time stretching out a little.

It was beautiful. I love this place.
